About Me

Lori is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in individual (children and adults), couples and family therapy. Lori maintains a private practice in Columbus, Indiana, where she was raised and has lived the majority of her adult life.

With 24 years of experience and a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Masters Degree in Social Work, Lori specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy. She is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among her areas of expertise are working with adolescents, women's issues, mood disorders, couples issues, life coaching, assertiveness training and issues related to self-esteem, as well as coping with the stress life can bring.

Lori is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

Lori began her career in community mental health in Indiana where she worked for the same agency for 4 years. During this time Lori held various positions to gain practical career knowledge. Lori's first job in mental health was working with the chronically mentally ill. This was a wonderful opportunity to understand the stigma regarding mental illness and gain appreciation for this population and the struggles they encounter, while being as productive in society as they can. Next Lori worked at a residential facility for youth until moving on to working with children and families providing case management services out in the community, which included teaching parenting skills, teaching parenting and other groups, coordinating services within the community, and coordinating with other agencies to provide continuity of care. Lastly, while attending Graduate School at the University of Louisville for Social Work, Lori worked in a clubhouse model for the chronically mentally ill which assist them with obtaining job skills and life skills to assist them with integrating and functioning within community.

Lori then attended the University of South Carolina to complete her Graduate Degree in Social Work. During this time Lori continued to work to obtain further clinical knowledge. She worked with inner city children and adolescent who were in the juvenile justice system and as a school therapist for an alternative school where she provided therapy for children and their families, and collaborated treatment with other state agencies. This provided a great opportunity to lean about learning disabilities and what must be provided educationally for children who are diagnosed with any type of a learning disability. This was a great opportunity to work with a unique  population and receive specialized gang task force training while working with gang members and those that had legal involvement.

Lori then completed a one year paid internship at Dorn VA Medical Center working primarily on the acute psychiatric unit where she went on rounds with physicans, completed assessments, provided therapy, and discharge planning, as well as rotations throughout various hospital units. Lori's last work experience in South Carolina was working at a private psychiatric hospital called Three Rivers where she was a social worker providing full immersion Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Lori provided various clinical services (therapy) and was an integral part of leading treatment team meetings, provided frequent crisis stabilization, and lead group therapy sessions. Lori was also a designated examiner for court for the acute adolescent psychiatric unit. She had the pleasure of meeting Marsha Linehan and received clinical supervision from Dr. Shari Manning of Behavioral Tech, LLC. She was an integral part of a DBT consultation team that was intensively trained in North Hampton Massachusetts.  It was during this time that Lori realized she had a real passion for providing high quality clinical services and would continue on this path.

Lori returned to Indiana and accepted a position at the Community Mental Health Organization she had previously worked at prior to relocating to South Carolina. Lori witnessed huge growth within the organization, however there still seemed to be a need for a higher quality of clinical services. She later left to begin working as a private practice clinician and started the Center for Counseling, Coaching & Consultation, LLC in January of 2009. She is so excited about the opportunity that this has allowed her to not work in the confines of a system that may not be conducive to providing a higher quality of clinical services that she is so dedicated to deliver.
